The Enforcement Division is seeking a new leader to guide the team into its next chapter. As deputy director Michael Macko departs, the agency is seeking a qualified candidate dedicated to protecting Californians’ privacy rights.
CalPrivacy is looking for the next Deputy Director of the Enforcement Division and welcomes qualified applications by September 4. This individual will replace Michael Macko, who will depart the agency on September 8.
Board Chairperson Jennifer Urban expressed gratitude for Macko’s exceptional leadership in creating, building, and leading the Enforcement Division since its inception, growing the team into one of the largest and most active privacy enforcers worldwide, and spearheading major actions under California’s comprehensive Consumer Privacy Act as well as under its data broker law. “We are grateful to Mike for his vision and leadership in building the Enforcement Division from one person—Mike—to a mature division housing one of the strongest privacy enforcement teams in existence,” she said.
The next deputy director will lead a robust Enforcement Division that engages in deep and broad multistate and international collaboration and the bipartisan, multistate Consortium of Privacy Regulators. In recent years, the Division has taken decisive action under both California’s comprehensive consumer privacy law and its data broker law, collecting millions of dollars in fines and requiring businesses to take specific steps to protect consumer privacy as required by the law.
